Mm Mm Monday - Nomaditude, Students of Deep Roots Dance

Every teacher is allowed to indulge her sense of pride and slot her dancers into their list of "Mm Mm!!" My students performed at a Halloween Hafla a week ago, and so I offer them up, with joy and admiration, for this week's installment.
Mm Mm Monday - Students of Deep Roots Dance Featuring Nomaditude
Monday, April 1, 2013
I interrupt this regularly scheduled Mm Mm Monday to bring you my beloved students. They performed at Serpent's Muse at Cues & Tattoos over the weekend, and I am a proud momma. They worked hard and climbed over stumbling blocks to create this performance together. They come from various dance backgrounds to find a common dance language and share it in joy.
I am so warm and fuzzy after a family reunion of my tribal sisters and brothers. I am thrilled my little family got to be a part of it. I hope you enjoy their performance!

I feel like a little personal Mm Mm is in order, after the video of my sweet students was made available on YouTube. This group of ladies has been a dedicated bunch of dancers, and this performance represents so much more than just a performance. Some brand spankin' new dancers even joined the chorus, having never performed tribal bellydance before (some never having performed anything ever!).
This performance stands out to be as an example of their passion and joy for the dance, and so many reasons I love them each dearly.
The week before the performance, just before the final dress-rehearsal in fact, I got doubly-challenging life-changing news. My brother was in critical condition in a hospital many states away from his home, and my husband was diagnosed with cancer. To say my world was rocked would be an understatement. But in trying to deal with all the ramifications of these two pieces of news, I was unable to be at either the final dress-rehearsal or the performance itself. My Nomaditude gals, which is my intermediate student troupe, took the reins without question and helped guide the newer dancers in their first tentative steps toward the stage. I felt horrible to not be able to be there, but it was such a blessing to me to have them confidently go forth and make this show a success for themselves. I am so proud of them.
